🏆 Laurent Ballesta a remporté le Grand Title Award du Wildlife Photographer Of The Year 2021, décerné par le Natural History Museum de Londres. Le photographe sous-marin et biologiste français a été récompensé pour cette image de mérous en accouplement, sélectionnée parmi 50 000 candidatures. Il est le premier français à recevoir cette distinction.

« Chaque année pendant cinq ans, mon équipe et moi sommes retournés dans ce lagon de Fakarava, en Polynésie française, en plongeant jour et nuit pour ne pas rater la ponte annuelle des mérous camouflages qui n’a lieu qu’aux alentours de la pleine lune de juillet », explique Ballesta. . « Ce nuage d’œufs au destin incertain a la forme d’un point d’interrogation. Je le vois comme un symbole : celui des incertitudes qui pèsent sur l’avenir de la biodiversité mondiale, même dans des lieux aussi préservés que la Réserve de Fakarava.

Pour moi, ce prix est un hommage à ce bel endroit, montrant que la préservation est la clé pour protéger un patrimoine précieux. »

🇬🇧 Laurent Ballesta has won the Wildlife Photographer of the Year Grand Title Award, given by the Natural History Museum in London. « Every year for five years, my team and I returned to this lagoon in Fakarava, French Polynesia, diving day and night so as not to miss the annual spawning of camouflage groupers that only takes place around the full moon of July, » Ballesta says. « This cloud of eggs of uncertain fate is shaped like a question mark. I see it as a symbol: that of the uncertainties hanging over the future of global biodiversity, even in places as unspoiled as the Fakarava Reserve.

To me, this award is a tribute to this beautiful place, showing that preservation is key to protect valuable patrimony. »
