Consid\u00e9r\u00e9 comme la plus grande d\u00e9couverte zoologique du XXe si\u00e8cle, il porte en lui les traces physiques de la sortie des eaux il y a 370 millions d\u2019ann\u00e9es, cette transition extraordinaire \u00e0 l&#8217;origine de tous les vert\u00e9br\u00e9s terrestres de la plan\u00e8te, homme compris.<br \/>\nC\u2019est pourquoi il a d\u00e9cha\u00een\u00e9 les passions des pal\u00e9ontologues, des biologistes et des \u00e9volutionnistes \u00e0 travers le monde entier. Des gens ont consacr\u00e9 leur vie \u00e0 \u00e9tudier ce poisson rarissime, d\u2019autres l\u2019ont m\u00eame perdue.<br \/>\nParti trois fois \u00e0 sa poursuite par plus de 120 m\u00e8tres de profondeur, Laurent Ballesta a r\u00eav\u00e9 toute sa vie de cette rencontre hors du temps. Apr\u00e8s avoir ramen\u00e9 en 2010 les premiers clich\u00e9s de ce g\u00e9ant pacifique dans son environnement naturel, il a organis\u00e9 une exp\u00e9dition scientifique en 2013 pour l\u2019\u00e9tudier, accompagn\u00e9 de scientifiques du Museum national d\u2019Histoire naturelle.
